"Te Amo" received mixed reviews from music critics, who commended the song for not sounding as futuristic as other songs on featured on Rated R, such as "Hard" and "Wait Your Turn". The song achieved moderate chart success around the world, peaking inside the top ten in France, Italy, Poland and the UK R&B Chart, as well as peaking at number two in Poland. The song's accompanying music video was directed by long time collaborator Anthony Mandler and featured French supermodel Laetitia Casta, who plays Rihanna's love interest in the video. Rihanna performed the song for the first and only time live at Radio 1's Big Weekend 2010 on May 23, 2010 in Bangor, Wales, as part of a set list with other songs from Rated R, as well as songs from some of her previous albums. The song was also included on the set list of Rihanna's Last Girl on Earth Tour (2010-11).
