  • Creighton School was founded in Omaha, Nebraska in 1878, later separating into Creighton Prepatory and Creighton University. The school was named after Edward Creighton, an Omaha businessman whose wife, Mary Lucretia, left their fortune to the Roman Catholic Bishop to build a school for boys. At that time, the school was given to the Society of Jesus, known more commonly as the Jesuits. The initial enrollment was 120 students. In 2004, the Catholic High School Honor Roll announced the selection of Creighton Preparatory School as one of the most prestigious 50 Catholic secondary schools in America. The school is an Omaha leader in both academics and athletics. Creighton Prep's school mascot is the Bluejay, and they are known for having very successul athletic teams. Their basketball gym known as "the birdcage" is known as one of the best atmospheres to watch a basketball game in the state of Nebraska. Its football team has won 27 state Class A titles (the first in 1932 and the last in 2004). In addition, its Academic Decathlon team is a regular contender for the national championship. The Science Bowl Team is currently state champion (2007) and will compete in Washington D.C. this spring for the national title. In addition, the Concert Band is regarded highly in the state and fills many All-State band chairs each year. Along with acedemics and athletics, Creighton Prepatory is very dedicated to service in the community. Of the various service opportunities the students at Prep can partake in, none of them are as honorable as Operation Others. Operation Others, referred to as O.O., is a way for Creighton Prep to give back to the community. The process takes several months of prepartion by people who are in the "Core Group." These are students from all Catholic high schools in the Omaha area. A week before Christmas, hundreds of volunteers help organize boxes of food and clothing to deliver to people in need. Over 1,000 families are given boxes of goods during the Christmas season. Operation Others is one of many ways Prep gives back to the community. For more information on how to help with such a great cause simply contact Creighton Prep.
