Project Prometheus is a United States government-funded research on Gray Tech artifacts conducted by the Special Research Projects Administration. The project was officially funded by then President Harvey McCullen, who insisted that all ongoing studies of the Gray Tech components are classified above top secret. Center of Gray Tech research was taken place in SRPA 7, located in Boulder, Colorado before it was relocated to SRPA 11, in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, after a fatal experiment with the Gray Tech components caused the deaths of five members of the research staff on January 4, 1953.

- Project Prometheus is a LuthorCorp Nanotechnology Division project intended for the survival of Lex Luthor and allow him to recover from his injuries that he sustained from the Fortress of Solitude's collapse. It was headed up by Dr. Edward Groll, a scientist that Lex Luthor hired to investigate alien technology. Later Lana Lang convinced Dr. Groll to use the suit on her and not on Lex, because Lex would be too dangerous to use it, and Dr. Groll realized that he didn't wanted to be remembered as the person who made a superpower suit for evilness and not for goodness.
- Originally named the "Nuclear Systems Initiative", Project Prometheus was named for the wisest of the Titans in Greek mythology who gave the gift of fire to humanity. NASA said the name Prometheus indicates its hopes of establishing a new tool for understanding nature and expanding capabilities for the exploration of the Solar System.
