A ficathon is a challenge in which each participant is assigned to write fan fiction based on another participant's request. Typically, ficathons are run in the following manner: * Each participant submits a request in which s/he offers several "prompts", or options of acceptable topics and/or fandoms for the story s/he wants written. * These requests are then redistributed (by the people running the ficathon), so that each participant gets someone else's list. * From this, the participant selects one prompt to which s/he writes a story. * All of the stories must be written and submitted by a predetermined deadline, after which they are posted. Sometimes stories are posted anonymously for a period of time, after which the authors are revealed. Other ficathons do not keep the authors' identities a secret after stories are posted.
