Vermont, one of the United States, is located in New England adjacent to the Canadian border. It is separated from northeastern New York by Lake Champlain and from New Hampshire by the Connecticut River. Groundwater, historically unregulated in Vermont, was declared a "public trust" in 2008 and large withdrawals will be regulated beginning in 2010.
