An Entity of Type : owl:Thing, within Data Space : 134.155.108.49:8890 associated with source dataset(s)

The chat bar appears near the bottom of the screen, and is used to enable a PC to speak outside a pre-scripted conversation. (Text entered into the this bar will be spoken by the PC.) Even though some NPCs will respond to such speaking, this is not the norm. The vast majority of the time, the chat bar is used to communicate with other PCs. If a player's character is dead, the chat bar is only accessible via the keyboard (the "enter" key), and only if the death options panel is currently visible.

  • The chat bar appears near the bottom of the screen, and is used to enable a PC to speak outside a pre-scripted conversation. (Text entered into the this bar will be spoken by the PC.) Even though some NPCs will respond to such speaking, this is not the norm. The vast majority of the time, the chat bar is used to communicate with other PCs. The chat bar is accessed either by clicking in it or by hitting the "enter" key. Once accessed, anything typed will appear in the chat bar, and hitting the "enter" key will cause the text to be processed (spoken). Hitting the "escape" key while entering chat text will cause the text to be discarded and the chat bar to cease being the focus of the keyboard. Clicking outside the chat bar will also cause the chat bar to lose the keyboard focus, but the text is not discarded in this case. However, using the "enter" key to resume use of the chat bar (but not clicking to do so) will cause existing text to be discarded. If a player's character is dead, the chat bar is only accessible via the keyboard (the "enter" key), and only if the death options panel is currently visible. Who hears the text entered into the chat bar is determined by the channel being used. The current default channel is listed to the left of the chat bar, and this default can be changed by clicking the default channel name, then clicking on the desired new default channel. (The tell channel is not available as a default.) The default channel can be overridden (changed) for a particular line of text by specifying one of the following switches at the beginning of the text. (The quotes around the character and player names are optional if the name in question does not contain spaces, and forbidden if the name itself contains a double quote character.) DM : /dm party : /p shout : /s talk : /talk /tk tell : /t "character name" /tell "character name" /tp "player name" whisper : /w For example, /p Help! will speak "Help!" on the party channel. Custom content, most notably SIMTools, may make additional switches (corresponding to custom channels) available. Console commands can be entered into the chat bar by preceding the command with two hash marks (##). Commands entered this way are not spoken for characters to hear.
