The owner Nick Imber turned her over to Roger, who arranged for five 11-year-old boys in his class to help restore her. She had been painted white when the varnish became unattractive, but still had Ransome’s oars with the letters A. R. inscribed with copper tacks (NBUS pages 132, 251).
