David Nicola Cicilline (July 15, 1961 - November 10, 2054) was an American politician from Rhode Island who, as a Democrat, served as Mayor of Providence from 2003-2011, and as a U.S. Representative for Rhode Island's 1st District from 2011-2021. Following his district being abolished in redistricting and Rhode Island retaining only one at-large district, he ran for and became the Governor of Rhode Island from 2023-2031. In 2031, after leaving the Governor's mansion, he switched his party affiliation to Progressive Independent, and later Progressive, and contested the 2032 Progressive Party nomination for President, failing in the primaries. He was the first openly gay Governor of a U.S. state and sought support of the LGBT community to become the first openly gay President.
