Jax Ion was a Pantoran Jedi Knight who fought in the pan-galactic Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. In the years before the war Jax was apprenticed to Twi-lek Jedi Master Anya Veil. He served alongside his Master for a year on the planet of his birth as extra security for members of the Papanoida family, where he became acquainted with Pantora's future senator Riyo Chuchi. Jax was Knighted following the first battle of what would become known as the Clone Wars. Jax would take the orphaned Vin Garth, who was the only recorded survivor of the Republic forces who took part in the Battle of Falleen, as his Padawan.

Jax was Knighted following the first battle of what would become known as the Clone Wars. Jax would take the orphaned Vin Garth, who was the only recorded survivor of the Republic forces who took part in the Battle of Falleen, as his Padawan. During the war Jax would become reacquainted with Riyo Chuchi, who now represented Pantora in the Galactic Senate. Jax foiled an attempt on the Senator's life following her successful resolution of the blockade around their home planet. With Vin temporarily assigned to Jedi Master Kit Fisto, Jax remained on Coruscant. He was given the mission to protect Senator Chuchi from further assassination attempts and subsequently accompanied her on a number of diplomatic missions. Towards the end of the war he and Chuchi had grown to care about one another, resulting in Jax leaving the Jedi Order so the pair could be together. The pair retired to Pantora. This decision ultimately saved Jax's life when Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, who was secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, initiated Order 66. The Clone troopers turned on and betrayed their Jedi leaders across the galaxy, which resulted in the fall of the Jedi Order. Following Order 66 Jax, having felt the massive disturbance in The Force brought on by said order combined with a coded message requesting that all Jedi return to the Jedi Temple, returned to Coruscant with Chuchi to ascertain just what had transpired in their absence. On-route he learned that the Clones had turned on their Jedi commanders and that the Galactic Republic had been transformed into the Galactic Empire. At a loss for what to do next Jax received Master Obi-Wan Kenobi's message warning surviving Jedi away. Instead of running however Jax choose instead to fight against this new regime, declaring to Chuchi his intent to rebel. Using her ties in the Senate to acquire information, Chuchi put Jax in contact with Senator Bail Organa, who urged the Pantoran Jedi to exercise patience. Bail requested time to lay the proper foundations so an organized rebellion could be formed. Jax opted to go into temporary exile on Orto Plutonia, claiming he would return in time, and urged Bail to find his apprentice, Vin, and direct him to Orto Plutonia so that his training could be finished.
