Steampunk originated in the form of Science Fiction literature in the 19th century, remaining today as the most abundant source of steampunk media. Initially created by the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, the as-yet unnamed genre experienced a revival in the 1960s through the novels Worlds of the Imperium and Queen Victoria's Bomb. These books, as well as their nineteenth-century predecessors built the foundation for steampunk. Since then, several steampunk novels were written, further building steampunk into the distinctive genre it is known as today.
