Scare Monster is a utility spell in ADOM. It allows the caster to induce panic in a target monster, causing it to flee. Scare Monster is a spell of arguable worth. As the in-game manual states Scare Monster doesn't work on undead, constructs and unintelligent beings (insects and jellies). It seems that, despite this description, the spell also doesn't work on demons and dragons. It is effective against humanoid opponents, animals, and all unclassified monsters except wall beasts. However, the spell is exceptionally unreliable (an untrained spell will fail at least ~75% of the time).

Note that scared monsters will trigger traps even if they are normally immune to them. This is theoretically a great way to reduce difficulty in the Minotaur Maze. As all minotaurs are humanoids they are vulnerable to Scare Monster and will flee from the PC triggering and thus uncovering all traps on their way.
Spell messages
* Unsuccessful casting of Scare Monster will generate "-target- does not seem to be impressed." message
* Successfull casting of Scare Monster will generate "-target- seems to be very scared." message
* It is possible to cast Scare Monster on the PC; doing so will generate "Booh!" message

Scare Monster is a spell of arguable worth. As the in-game manual states Scare Monster doesn't work on undead, constructs and unintelligent beings . However, the spell is exceptionally unreliable .
If the PC avoids cornering the scared monster and does not use ranged attacks, he can chase the target and hit it with melee weapons with no retaliation. It is still possible for a scared monster to start raging — such situation may be very dangerous with melee-heavy monsters.
Scare Monster is only trained when its target is successfully scared.
