Hugh Thomas Arthur Chidgey (1860-1941) was a local politician in the East End of London. Born in Shoreditch. In 1890 he became a vestryman for the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town. At the 1898 London County Council elections he was one of two Moderate Party candidates at Stepney, but failed to be elected.

abstract	Hugh Thomas Arthur Chidgey (1860-1941) was a local politician in the East End of London. Born in Shoreditch. In 1890 he became a vestryman for the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town. At the 1898 London County Council elections he was one of two Moderate Party candidates at Stepney, but failed to be elected. In 1900 the Mile End Vestry was abolished with the creation of the Metropolitan Borough of Stepney. He was a Conservative Party-backed candidate in the first elections to Stepney Borough Council, at Mile End Old Town South Ward. He failed to be elected was later made an alderman and served as Mayor of Stepney on three occasions between 1913 and 1917. He was involved in recruiting drives for the British Army during the First World War. He was also a Divisional Commander in the Metropolitan Special Constabulary, for which he was awarded the MBE in the New Years Honours 1919.
