The play is reviewed in the paper. Annie is described as a competent Lady Bracknell. Bet reminds her that she leaves next week to take a summer job at a holiday camp in Morecambe. With Hilda continually turning up late, Annie feels her staff are unreliable and warns Bet that she may not keep her job open. Rita feels the strain of living with heartbroken Lucille. Gertie’s nephew Gary Turner arrives for a visit. The residents are disturbed by the noise of the lorries serving the warehouse. Stan sends for an application form for a job cleaning on a Caribbean cruise liner, the Monte Umber. Hilda hits him over the head with it when she sees it; she needs a rest, not more skivvying. Lucille tells Billy that she and Danny have split up and she's living with Rita. Billy passes the news onto Annie.
