- Shadow Mario is Mario's shadow. He got tired of fighting, so in the Videogame War, he left during the Battle of Tokyo. This helped Mario win the war, as people got distracted by a shadow running away with a knapsack on a stick. He likes to draw pictures. He was a hobo until he went on SMK TV.
- Shadow Mario (also known as ?) is Bowser Jr.'s alternate form he can transform into when he has the Magic Paintbrush. As Shadow Mario, he usually causes chaos and gets Mario himself in trouble, usually causing a chase scene. He first appears in Super Mario Sunshine. Bowser Jr.'s paint brush was created by Professor E. Gadd, a professor who previously helped the Mario Bros. out at the Thwomp Volcano, and helped Luigi in his quest to save his brother from a giant boo.
- Shadow Mario is an evil doppelgänger of Mario. He makes his first appearance in Super Mario Sunshine as Mario's enemy; Shadow Mario shares the shape of the plumber, but is completely blue - according to the game, he is made out of Graffiti. He uses his Magic Paintbrush to spread red and yellow Graffiti and Goop across Isle Delfino, and dirties the Shine Sprites that keep the island sunny. He was seen causing havoc on Isle Delfino by some of its residents, causing Spoiler warning: Spoilers end here.

His plan works and Mario gets blamed, and is then ordered by a local judge to clean up all of the paint.

In all of the Episode 7 levels of Super Mario Sunshine (with the exception of Corona Mountain), the player must chase Shadow Mario, squirting him with F.L.U.D.D.. It is eventually revealed at the first episode of Pinna Park that Shadow Mario is Bowser Jr., Bowser's son, and that the device he uses to vandalise the island was made by E. Shadow Mario also appeared as a playable character in the game Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour. In Super Mario Galaxy, a minor character called Cosmic Mario appeared who looked strikingly similar to Shadow Mario. He only appears in four galaxies only when the cosmic comet is in orbit and only then he races against you to the star.
