  • Sudoku is a logic-based number-placement puzzle. The objective is to fill a 9×9 grid so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3×3 boxes (also called blocks or regions) contains the digits from 1 to 9 only one time each. The puzzle setter provides a partially completed grid. In Problem Sleuth, Sudoku plays a relatively large role in the game, especially in the final battle against Mobster Kingpin.
  • The original modern Sudoku problem was called "Number Place" and featured a nine-by-nine grid where the object was to fill in each of the numbers 1 through 9 such that each number appears exactly once in each row, column and three-by-three sub-grid. Later versions of the Sudoku puzzle used different-sized square grids and overlapping grids. Other variations include irregularly shaped subgrids.
  • Sudoku is a logic puzzle in which nine symbols must be placed in a grid so that each row, column and 3x3 box contains exactly one of each symbol. The symbols are almost always the digits 1-9, but the basic puzzle is not a mathematical one. However, some variants are mathematical (see below).

  • Made up of nine nine-by-nine grids which contain some random numbers scattered around, the object of the game is to fill in the blank spaces with other numbers. The digits 1 to 9 are permitted, as well as random scribbles, boxes, arrows, smiley faces, hearts, stars, and horseshoes, clovers and blue moons, pots of gold and rainbows, and the red balloons! shapes. Success at Sudoku is measured by the amount of time spent filling in the boxes multiplied by the number of 'I'm concentrating hard' faces the solver makes whilst doing so.

  • The object of the game is to complete the puzzle grid by placing the numbers 1 through 9 in each of the squares. The rules are pretty simple. Each row must have the numbers 1 through 9 in it exactly one time each. Each column on the board must also have the numbers 1 through 9 in it. Finally, each individual 9-square grid must also have the numbers 1 through 9. Based on this, you can deduce how to fill each empty square. Sometimes you can narrow things down to one or two options and you just need to guess.

Success at Sudoku is measured by the amount of time spent filling in the boxes multiplied by the number of 'I'm concentrating hard' faces the solver makes whilst doing so. Sudoku has also been known to cause heart failure in mice, so it is advised that anyone trying such a puzzle part takes precautions to protect themselves; these include aspirin and someone on hand with an emergency defibrillator.

In the Poptropica version, you can play against an opponent so it’s a race to see who can score the most points. The player who solves the most squares and therefore gets the most points wins the game. Unlike most of the other games, Sudoku keeps a running total of your wins and losses so you can see how good a player is when you start the game.
