| - The Ambrose Erik Bauer Canal (commonly referred to as the Bauer Canal) is a canal linking the Caltropic Lakes of Dovani to the Verranderlijke Ocean, with a route crossing over the Carina Neck . At 224 miles long, and with two sets of locks rising above the Caltropic Highlands, it is the longest and most expensive canal ever built. Before the opening of the Bauer Canal, goods made in the interior of Dovani were transported to foreign markets via overland rail links, and no oceangoing vessels were able to access the Caltropic Lakes and the Sea of Carina. Immediately after Rutania purchased the Carina Neck from Zardugal, the nation started planning a canal that would cross the territory. While it recieved overwhelming support in Rutania, other nations in the area, fearing a threat to their influence, opposed its construction, most notably Greater Hulstria, who prohibited its ships from using the canal, as well as imposing a ban on goods that passed through it. Named after famous Hulstrian politician and human rights advocate Ambrose Bauer, the canal has assumed a major role in world commerce, and has led to the rise of Rutania as a world power. When Hulstria and Gao-Soto sold Midway to Sekowo in 3388, it retained control over the canal, as per the Treaty of Miyako.
