The layout of the DHARMA Initiative's The Swan is modeled so that it appears to resemble a 1970s style apartment. The Washer and Dryer, however, do not follow this model, and appear to be made within the last few years, as opposed to everything else which was made decades ago. The day Jack, Locke and Kate entered the hatch, Desmond has been doing a load of laundry with the washer and dryer. In "Live Together, Die Alone", when the hatch's system failure was activated, the washer and dryer were pulled by the magnetic force and nearly collided with Charlie.
