The Southern Isles were an archipelago off the Alagaësia coastline consisting of: Beirland Island, Nía Island, Uden Island, Parlim Island, as well as Illium Island. These islands were of little importance until the end of the Rider War, when they were added to the territory of Surda in a deal made by Nasuada which allowed her to take the throne in Ilirea (Urû'baen). This agreement doubled the size of Surda and gave Nasuada authority over Surda.
