- The Afflicted are villagers of Mort'ton who were cursed by Lord Lowerniel Vergidiyad Drakan's evil gust of wind. They speak nonsense to the player if talked to. The Afflicted can be only cured temporarily by using either Serum 207 or Serum 208, despite the latter being a "permanent' cure.
- After completing Peryite's quest, a group of Afflicted may hunt the Dragonborn (under the name "Remnants of Afflicted") similar to how a Hired Thug would be paid to do so if the Dragonborn had severely angered or wronged a character.

- The Afflicted are cursed creatures that plague the land of Cantha. They are living creatures ‐ animals, humans, plants — that have gotten too close to the malevolent spirit of Shiro Tagachi. Despite rumors to the contrary, the disease is not contagious, and only spreads through contact with Shiro. The Afflicted can be found throughout Cantha, on Shing Jea Island, in the narrow alleys of Kaineng City and even making assaults in the Echovald Forest and the Jade Sea. In any area they are found, they will be hostile to all other creatures except Shiro'ken and (usually) the Am Fah.
- Peel played the first single by Afflicted on his 11 December 1979 show and described how somebody complained to the BBC about the band's connection to the far right, after he announced that he will play their single Be Aware: On the Appendix section of Margrave Of The Marshes, Peel mentions the British Movement having a campaign in sending turds to him through the post, although on that occasion it was not linked to Afflicted members Nicky Crane or Glenn Bennet, but through Peel playing reggae music.
