In the episode, the timelost Smurfs appear in Al Fresco's kitchen as he was preparing the ingredients for making the contest pizza, the scent of which attracted Greedy's nose as he sampled a slice of the pizza pie. However, while Al Fresco slept in his kitchen, Greedy tried to look for the recipe of the human chef's pizza when he was trapped under an overturned strainer, and from there saw a rival pizza chef named Gargensole sneak into the kitchen to switch Al Fresco's pizza ingredients with his own so that he would come out the winner of the contest instead of Al Fresco. In the morning, Anti Pasto woke up her husband and got him ready to prepare his pizza while she went out to get a spot in front of Caesar's palace. While she waited for her husband, she had to endure Gargensole's comments about her husband being afraid that he would be shown up by his rival while she was worrying about her husband not showing up in time for the contest. She got Gargensole and his cat in a choke hold with a wreath of garlic, saying that they had better shut up or else she would stuff their nose holes full of garlic. Fortunately, just as Caesar was about to give Gargensole the first-place ribbon for his pizza, Al Fresco showed up in time to have Caesar sample his pizza from his portable pizza oven. Caesar was impressed by both the taste of the pizza and its innovative delivery system that he awarded Al Fresco the position as his head pizza maker instead of Gargensola, who was so mad that he flipped his own pizza right onto Caesar's head, which caused him and his cat Scampi to be thrown into the dungeon.
