  • The 822d Air Division (822d AD) is an inactive United States Air Force organization. Its last assignment was with Strategic Air Command, assigned to Eighth Air Force, being stationed at Turner Air Force Base, Georgia. It was inactivated on September 2, 1966. Activated in 1958 as an intermediate command echelon of Strategic Air Command, providing command and control, manning, training, and equipping of B-52 Stratofortress Strategic Wings in the Southeastern United States to conduct long range bombardment missions from January 1959 – September 1966. Managed conversion of SAC MAJCOM Strategic Wings to USAF AFCOM wings, providing wings with combat historical lineage. The division conducted numerous staff assistance visits and monitored tactical exercises such as Operations Spruce Up and Chrome Dome.
