Has been in development since 2000, a preview of the series was first shown at the 2001 San Diego Comic-Con International, and further details were revealed at Fox's 2002 Upfront. The series premiered on November 24, 2002, and ended on May 18, 2003. Fox initially ordered 20 episodes; Geo had hoped to expand on that, but the series was not renewed for another season due to low ratings, as the show "did not have any more celebrities". As of 2008, Fox has written off Planetokio for financial reasons. Since then, reruns of the show aired until 2005.
