- Barnard's Star, six light years from Earth and also located in Sector ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha, is an extremely fast-moving star and an interstellar transit stop used by the Vogon constructor fleet after demolishing Earth, where the crew's planet leave is cancelled after Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz has an unhappy love affair.
- Barnard's Star (also known as V2500 Ophiuchi) is a star system, a binary star in the space of the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant This binary consists of two type M red stars located about 1.8 parsecs (5.9 light years) from Earth, where it is visible in the constellation of Ophiuchus. Barnard's Star lies in Sector 001, in the general vicinity of Beta Comae Berenices and Sol. (ST references: Spaceflight Chronology, Star Charts) In the 2370s, Federation manufacturing satellites were located near Barnard's Star. (DS9 novel: The Laertian Gamble)
- Barnard's Star was a red dwarf star approximately 6 light years from the Terran star Sol. The planet Matanda orbited Barnard's Star. In 2366, Starfleet Science Archaeology Division conducted an archaeological expedition to Matanda, led by Commander Anne Lansing aboard the USS Worsaae. The Worsaae received orders to proceed to Wolf 359 at best speed to assist in combating the Borg, but a class 9 plasma storm prohibited them from making a hasty departure. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "The Burnt Child")
- In 2364, the location of Barnard's Star was labeled in a star chart of a stellar neighborhood with Sol at the center. This chart was stored in the USS Enterprise-D library computer. Later that year, the chart was scanned by Outpost 63. (TNG: "The Naked Now" , production art; TNG: "The Last Outpost" )

(Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "The Burnt Child") According to the book Star Trek: Star Charts, Barnard's Star is on the opposite side of Sol than Wolf 359 is. The Earth colony, Xartheb (founded in 2131 by settles from Neptune Colony Four), was on the sixth planet of the system. Most of the colonists were geologists and technicians running semi-automated mines. (Orion Press: "First Contact 101", "Alis Volat Propriis", "Dear Mom")
- In 2364, the location of Barnard's Star was labeled in a star chart of a stellar neighborhood with Sol at the center. This chart was stored in the USS Enterprise-D library computer. Later that year, the chart was scanned by Outpost 63. (TNG: "The Naked Now" , production art; TNG: "The Last Outpost" ) This star was only mentioned in writing. The star chart was drawn by Rick Sternbach for the reference book Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology (p. 77) in the late 1970s. This chart showed Earth commercial and exploration routes after the use of warp drive began. Barnard's Star was a destination on an exploration route. According to Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 44) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the Barnard's Star star system – a system of two M-class stars – was located in the Alpha Quadrant.
