She was said to be born out of sea foam (Aphros) and the semen of the god Ammon-Dias.

Because of her great beauty, Ammon-Dias believed the other gods would fight over her so he married her to Hephaistos. However Athórkalloni had many affairs with both mortal men and gods like Areios whom she later married. Some sources say that they were already joined originally but Ammon-Dias made her marry Hephaistos.
