A Meta-Search Engine is a search engine that sends user requests to several other heterogeneous search tools (like search engines, web-directories, Deep-Web search portals or even other Meta Search Engines) and compiles the results in a homogeneous manner based on a specific algorithm. So unlike search engines Meta-Search Engines do not have database-indexes, instead a virtual index based on the search query is generated on fly.
