For seven years after this, he went back to university and trained to be a primary school teacher, an occupation he worked at in Blackburn until 2016 when he appeared in the television drama Jericho. During the 1980s when the real voice of Gerry Adams, the spokesman for Sinn Féin, was forbidden to be broadcast in Britain, Loughran's voice was dubbed into recordings of him broadcast on British airwaves. His other credits include minor roles in The Darling Buds of May; High Boot Benny; Auf Wiedersehen, Pet; The Hothouse; I Fought the Law; The Royal; Ideal; The Baby War; Mobile; The Bill; Heartbeat and Doctors. He is married with four children.
