The devourer organism was a type of creature used for garbage disposal. Created by the government on Coruscant after the last of the forest regions on the planet were built upon, it was a red, liquid 'goo' consisting of many monocellular life-forms. It's purpose was to consume anything organic that was thrown into it, however, it could also consume some inorganic materials as well, such as clothes.

In 27 ABY, Luke Skywalker and the rest of the Jedi and Wraith Squadron strike team encountered one such organism on Coruscant during their mission. It was in a tank, at the bottom of which it concealed a wheel that activated a hidden turbolift.
