Foggy Fumes is the first stage of the Factory in Donkey Kong Country Returns. This is one of only three stages in the game where everything is a silhouette against the background, the others being Sunset Shore and Smokey Peak. In this stage, however, the background was gray, while in Sunset Shore it was orange, and in Smokey Peak it was red. The three share similar music, however. Once this stage is completed, fans will turn on in the factory, blowing all the smoke away. There is also a cameo of Mr. Game-and-Watch hammering at a pipe in the background. It is preceded by Thugly's Highrise and followed by Slammin' Steel.

However, when they are blown, it turns out they are magnets attached to propellers. This is the Factory's version of objects able to be blown on, while dandelions and propeller-like plants are found in the previous world. Usually, the collectible is attached to the magnet on the propeller, however, these magnets attached to propellers behave no different to propeller-like plants when blown on. Anyway, the Kongs can head forward on this floor. Soon, they will near the end of the floor. A high platform can be seen in the gap in front of the Kongs. They should jump here. A platform attached to two ropes can be seen with a Tiki Goon walking on it.

A platform attached to two ropes can be seen with a Tiki Goon walking on it. There is an arch of three Bananas just before the platform too. BUT!!! The main thing to look at is the platform's base. Part of it is sticking out, allowing the Kongs to land on it. So, if the Kongs choose to ignore jumping on top of the platform and instead drop onto the part of the base sticking out, they can head right to enter the platform. Here, they will enter an alcove where a Banana Coin, most likely, can be found. The apes can then jump on top of this platform from the alcove. Anyway, on top of this platform, The apes can see a fan with four platforms attached to its blades. If the heroes jump on the platform closest to them attached to the blade, it begins to move, with their weight, much like how a fan's four, three, or two blades spin when the fan is on. So, to operate such a platform, the heroes can allow it to move, but then jump on either the next or the previous platform repeatedly to keep the fan itself spinning. Every time the fan (and this goes for all the other fans in the level) spins, a Banana comes out. So, if the Kongs continue to spin it, it will keep spilling Bananas until a Banana Coin appears. BUT!!! This fan has a reward for doing so (collecting all Bananas and the Banana Coin) with this fan, unlike any other fan in the level. If the Kongs collect all the Bananas and the Banana Coin that spill out this fan when it spins, a Puzzle Piece appears in the center of it. Cool, right? Anyway, a platform is after this fan with the four platforms, and a Buzzsaw rolls all around it repeatedly. The heroes can move the fan platforms close to this platform by jumping and standing on them, then they can jump here. Here, the apes should dodge the Buzzsaw as it nears them, for Buzzsaws CANNOT be defeated. Anyway, a crane platform moves next to this platform the heroes are on. The Kongs can jump to it. The apes can see a platform attached to two ropes above them, and it holds the letter K of the K-O-N-G Letters. The crane platform will now move, carrying the Kongs along with it, towards another fan. This fan really has three platforms attached to its three blades, since one blade has been damaged. One of the fan's platforms, however, is covered in fog. However, as the Kongs jump on the nearest fan platform, they can see it, and it holds a Banana, just like the other two. If the apes land on the nearest platform on the fan and quickly jump to the one above them, they can let the platform bring them down a bit before they jump to the platform with the letter K on it. So, that's how the letter K is collected. Anyway, there is another fan just after this first fan of the area, however, this fan has all four platforms on each of its four blades. A Tiki Buzz flies up and down between the space between the two fans, so the apes must watch out for it when they plan to jump to the second fan's nearest platform. Anyway, using the fan's platforms to bring them close to the Tiki Buzz, the apes can carefully jump over the Tiki Buzz and land on the second fan's nearest platform. Here , the apes have two routes. If the apes land on the nearest platform on the fan and then jump to the one above them, they can jump to a platform attached to two ropes to the right of them. Here on this platform with two ropes attached to it, the apes can see something to the right of them that looks as if it can be stood on. If the apes jump here, they will land on it. They can move forward to the edge of this object's end. Here, they can see a Puzzle Piece in midair right next to them. The apes can jump to this Puzzle Piece to collect it, where they will then land on a floor with a Pogobot on it. However if the Kongs ignore this Puzzle Piece route, they can use the fan platforms to get close to an object in the gap that is constantly bobbing up and going back down. It is not moving down into the abyss, however. The apes can jump here. Here, a floor can be seen ahead, and there is a wall that is not touching the floor, but is still not too far from touching it. So, there is a space a little higher than the Kongs themselves between the wall and the floor. Anyway, the Kongs can jump here. Here, the Kongs will see a Pogobot move towards them. They should quickly hide under the space between the wall and the floor, since the Pogobot is too tall to go under the space. Pogobots are very dangerous enemies, and they are very tricky to get around. This is because Pogobots, hence the name, bounce up and down in the fashion of a pogo stick. Pogobots also do not bounce up too high, making them more tricky to get past without losing a Heart. They are also made of electricity, which makes them invincible to any attack but a Barrel (or any type of Barrel), much like with Jellybobs and Electrasquids. Anyway, once the Pogobot heads the other direction after hitting the wall, the heroes can come out of the space and head forward. They should head close to the Pogobot (not too close unless you want to get hurt). Now when the enemy jumps, the heroes should quickly roll past it. The apes can continue on forward (you don't have to roll now, that was just to get past the Pogobot), passing the Puzzle Piece they could've gotten, if they have not passed it already, and also pass another wall similar to the previous. Immediately after this wall is the floor's end. A crane platform can be seen nearing the Kongs. Two platforms attached to two ropes are above this crane platform, the one to the right holding a Banana Coin. When the crane platform gets near enough, the apes can jump on it. The apes can then jump on the first platform attached to two ropes, which is the one to the left. Here, the apes can then jump to the one to the right of them. Here on this second platform attached to two ropes, the apes can jump to a high part of floor attached to a lower floor. There is a horn on this higher part of floor that can be blown on to cause it to make a sound and release a collectible, most likely. The apes can jump to this higher part of floor with the horn. Here, they can then drop to the lower floor where a DK Barrel can be found. Another, smaller, object that bobs up and heads back down is at the end of this floor. The apes can jump over it to land on an even lower floor that holds a Tiki Goon and another small object that bobs up and heads back down at its end. However, the apes can jump over this object and back onto the floor where two Banana Bunches can be found. There is a higher, thin, part of floor just after this. The apes can jump on it. They can drop back down onto the floor ahead of them. They can head forward under a long trail of Bananas above them. Shortly after the apes start moving on this floor, they will encounter another deadly Pogobot. The apes can back away from the deadly Pogobot if they sense it about to land on them. Now when the enemy jumps, the Kongs can quickly run past the enemy. Shortly after the Kongs pass this first Pogobot, they will meet another Pogobot close to a higher part of floor. The Kongs should first move away so that the Pogobot does not land on them when it jumps. When the Pogobot jumps, the Kongs can roll past it. They can continue on to the higher part of floor where they can find a Barrel Cannon in the gap. The Kongs can jump into the Barrel Cannon where they fire to a platform that begins the first very foggy area of the level, which takes place in the background. The Kongs can find two platforms ahead of them being covered in the fog. As the Kongs continue, they can maneuver around some many more platforms. Some platforms hold collectibles like an Extra Life Balloon, the letter O on one platform that can be reached if the Kongs jump to it. After the platform with the Extra Life Balloon on it, the apes can see a crane platform moving towards them, which they can jump to. Also, right in the foreground where the platform with the Extra Life Balloon lies, there is a Puzzle Piece on a object that blows out smoke (or fog). However because the apes are in the background, and the Puzzle Piece is in the foreground, the apes cannot reach it. After the Kongs jump off the crane platform onto another platform, they can maneuver around some more platforms until they reach a platform with a Barrel Cannon to the right of it. The Barrel Cannon fires the Kongs right into the Tutorial Pig hosting the first checkpoint on a floor in the foreground. The apes can move forward under a wall that is close to touching the floor; it is not much higher than the Kongs themselves. BUT!!! If the Kongs roll-jump to the left from the checkpoint (or the edge of the floor by the checkpoint) they can land on a platform. The Kongs can then jump from platform to platform until they reach the platform with the Puzzle Piece on it. The Kongs can then head back to the floor with the checkpoint on it. However, the Kongs should know when to roll-jump back onto the floor with the checkpoint. It isn't that difficult, but it still isn't easy. The platform the Kongs should roll-jump off of (which is the one they roll-jumped to) has a weird look, as if parts of it are sticking out, while the others after it are cylinder shaped objects that produce smoke/fog. Anyway, after the heroes go past the wall not too high above the floor with the checkpoint, the first thing they encounter is a Tiki Goon, which can either be jumped over, or jumped on (which defeats it). After this Tiki Goon, there is a small raised part of floor with a platform attached to two ropes above it. A Banana is on this small raised part of floor. However, near this small, raised part of floor on the opposite side is a Pogobot, heading towards the Kongs. Carefully following the steps to pass a Pogobot safely, the heroes should get past this nasty enemy and then jump on the small raised part of floor. As soon as the Kongs drop back onto the floor from this raised part of floor, a lot more stuff come into view. Some Bananas, an object that bobs up and back down into the floor, three more platforms attached to two ropes above this, one of which holds a Heart, a Tiki Goon and two more Pogobots, which aren't very far from one another. The three platforms attached to two ropes can be reached if the Kongs stand on the object that bobs up and back down in the floor and jump to the nearest platform when it gets high enough. Anyway, as the Kongs carefully pass this deadly area, they can jump on a smaller object that bobs up and go backdown at the end of the floor. Here, the Kongs can see a fan with four platforms: one on each of its four blades. The Kongs can jump here. A long object that looks a lot like the small version of the objects that bob up and go back down is after this fan and it blocks the Kongs from reaching a Barrel Cannon after it. Now how are the Kongs supposed to move that thing! Well, here's the trick to it. If the Kongs jump on the platform on the left or the platform on the top (not the other two or this object will not move up), they can move the platform (and spin the fan) down with their weight, which causes the object to move up. So, if the Kongs now jump to the next platform to their left repeatedly, they can cause the object to move all the way up. Now after it has been raised enough (or to its highest point), the apes should now jump to a platform on the right, then quickly jump and hover into the Barrel Cannon (depending on how far away you are from the Barrel Cannon. If you are not far from it, you can just jump into it). Now the apes must fire past two Flaming Tiki Buzzes that constantly fly up and down in order to enter another Barrel Cannon. A trail of three Bananas is right before the Flaming Tiki Buzzes. The apes should fire when both Flaming Tiki Buzzes are going down or up quickly before they lose a Heart. Now in this next Barrel Cannon the heroes can fire into the second, which is also the last, very foggy area in the background. They will land on a platform. A crane platform moving back and forth can be seen ahead, and another lower platform is right before this crane platform (which is right after the platform the apes are on). A Banana Coin can be seen in midair above the crane platform's moving path. The apes can simply jump and hover onto this crane platform. The crane platform will carry the apes to two more platforms that they can climb before they jump onto and ride two more crane platforms. On the second platform here, which is the highest, the apes can then jump onto the first crane platform after it. Here, the apes can easily jump to the second crane plaform when it gets close. On the second crane platform, the Kongs can get carried to a platform with a Barrel Cannon after it. The apes can jump to this platform when they get close to it. Here, they can then jump into the Barrel Cannon where they can fire onto a floor in the foreground. Here, the apes can find another wall that isn't too high above the floor, yet the Kongs can still squeeze past it. On the other side of the the wall, there is a Pogobot as well as two Bananas with the letter N between them. Well dodging the Pogobot isn't that easy, but what makes this dodging this enemy more challenging are the Buzzsaws that roll around this floor. Every time a Buzzsaw nears the apes, they must jump over it to avoid being hurt by it. So, first the apes should focus on the Buzzsaws. When they jump over one, they should now focus on the Pogobot. Now, using the steps to avoid being hurt and get past the Pogobot, the apes can get past the enemy quickly before the next Buzzsaw comes close to them. The apes can then jump to the letter N (if the Pogobot is not in their way). After the letter N, the apes can go under another wall close to the floor, which they can head under. After the Kongs pass this wall, they will end up at the end of the floor. Two platforms attached to two ropes are in the gap ahead, one is higher than the other. The Kongs can jump onto the lower platform attached to two ropes from here, however, they should make sure that no Buzzsaw is nearing them. On this lower platform attached to two ropes, the apes can then jump onto the higher platform attached to two ropes, which is smaller. A floor holding the Tutorial Pig who hosts the second checkpoint is to the right of the Kongs, and it is attached to a lower floor. The apes can jump to this platform with the Tutorial Pig hosting the second checkpoint. The apes can drop to the lower floor. An object resembling the objects that bob up and come back down is above this lower floor. However, it is not moving out and back in. It is instead dropping Buzzsaws. So, the Kongs should let the first Buzzsaw drop out this object. After it has dropped out and starts to roll down the floor ahead of the Kongs, they should start to roll along this floor too. You see, Buzzsaws move faster than the Kongs can run, meaning that if the Kongs run, a Buzzsaw can easily catch up to them and even roll right through them, hurting them. The first thing the apes will pass is an arch of two Bananas with a Banana Bunch in the center. These items can easily be grabbed, however, the apes must watch out for the Buzzsaws who are coming from behind. Shortly after this arch of Bananas, the apes will pass another object resembling the ones that bob out and go back in, that, like the previous, drops Buzzsaws. The apes should wait for this object to drop a Buzzsaw, jumping over any Buzzsaw that comes near them from behind. Once this is done, the Kongs can safely roll past this object. The heroes will soon come up to two small platforms attached to two ropes that are spaced out from each other. A Banana Coin is in the middle of the large space between these platforms. The apes will soon, shortly after this, roll underneath a strange-looking wall. The wall probably does drop Buzzsaws (I, Smashbro8 am not sure about this), however, the apes can continue on to roll past more Bananas and Banana Bunches. The letter G is above this group of Bananas/Banana Bunches and it can easily be reached if the apes jump and hover to it. Shortly after the letter G, the apes will come up to a horn that can be blown on to cause it to make a sound and spit out a Puzzle Piece. Shortly after the horn is the end of the floor. Here, the apes can find two platforms attached to two ropes, one being higher than the other. The apes can jump to the first platform attached to two ropes. Here, they can then jump on the second platform attached to two ropes, which is smaller. From here, the apes can jump and hover onto one of the platforms of a fan that appears to have two platforms, one on each blade. One blade appears to be damaged, however the third is hiding in the fog. On one of the platforms, once the platform moves down with the Kongs' weight, the third platform comes into view, and it holds a Puzzle Piece on it. The apes can simply jump to the third platform for the Puzzle Piece. They can then jump to a platform on their right. Another fan with four platforms, one on each blade, can be seen after this. The apes can jump to the nearest platform from here. Here, the apes can jump to a platform on their right, where they can see a higher floor above them. The apes, from here, can then jump up to the higher floor. The game's camera zooms out when the Kongs land here. A fan with three platforms, one on each blade, is after this floor. A lower floor with four Tiki Goons walking on it extends past a large red button attached to a plug, whose outlet is beneath it. Using the platforms on the fan, the Kongs can reach this large red button. Another fan with four platforms, one on each blade, and a higher part of floor that holds a horn that can be blown on for a collectible, most likely, are after this large red button. Anyway, when the Kongs pound on this large red button, the plug goes into the outlet, causing the two fans with their platforms, one one each side to start spinning on their own, much like a fan when it is turned on. An Auto-Fire Barrel appears above the Kongs, however, the games camera moves up past the area with the switch, revealing a room with a floor that has two lower floors attached to it in the background here. The level's Slot Machine Barrel can be seen above this floor. With the camera still viewing this floor, it then pictures the Kongs being fired to it. When the Kongs land on the floor, the camera zooms back in, and they (the apes) will appear beneath the Slot Machine Barrel. Since there is nothing here, no horns, no magnets attached to propellers, no secret alcoves, or Bonus Rooms, the apes can just go ahead and jump into the Slot Machine Barrel. Once the Slot Machine Barrel has been jumped to and hit, Foggy Fumes is complete!
