In 2293 leidde de ontploffing van de Klingon maan Praxis ertoe dat het Klingon rijk hun band met de Federatie zou moeten heroverwegen. Het rijk was namelijk niet meer in staat om hun gigantische militaire budget intact te houden door de nadelige effecten op de economie. Gorkon benaderde de Federatie via kapitein Spock en begon onderhandelingen om de militaire buitenposten aan beide zijden van de neutrale zone te ontmantelen. Tevens werden de eerste stappen gezet om een nieuwe alliantie te vormen tussen de twee vijanden.
- Gorkon was Klingon chancellor and the head of the Klingon High Council in 2293. In 2293, the destruction of the Klingon moon of Praxis forced the Klingon Empire to reassess its position towards the United Federation of Planets as it simply could no longer afford to maintain its massive military budget and deal with the devastating effects of the explosion on their economy. Gorkon approached the Federation via Captain Spock and opened negotiations that would see the military outposts on both sides of the Klingon Neutral Zone dismantled and a new alliance forged between the two cold war enemies.
- Gorkon, Son of Toq was a Klingon male introduced in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. He was portrayed by David Warner, who played a number of Star Trek related roles, including that of St. John Talbot. Gorkon was the father of Azetbur, Karel, Kell and Kintazh, Gorkon was widowed by 2293. Only his daughter Azetbur survived him. He was an educated man who collected and read the works of the human playwright William Shakespeare in the original Klingon.
