Its importance in the Forgotten Realms is based on the fact that the names of several of the drow noble houses of this city, which is detailed in the AD&D module D3 Vault of the Drow, republished and expanded in the Queen of the Spiders campaign adventure, are mentioned in the 1991 Forgotten Realms publication FOR2 The Drow of the Underdark.
