An alien entity, in the form of Rumpelstiltskin, told Miles O'Brien that a farmer from Derry had once tried to chase him away until he saved the farmer's crop from locusts. (DS9: "If Wishes Were Horses") In an early script version, Rumpelstiltskin mentioned the English town of Chester instead of Derry.

After removing "London" from the name, and failing to do anything else to improve, Derry became a ghetto.
