The white and red colours are the colours of Bohemia, the main historical province of the Czech Republic (the Bohemian coat of arms is a white two-tailed lion upon red background). The blue triangle was added to make the flag distinct from the flag of Poland. There is no official meaning of the blue colour, but it can stand either for Slovakia (another constituent entity of the Czechoslovak State along with the Czech Republic) or for Moravia (another historical province of the Czech Republic along with Bohemia).
