The 1994 Mello Yello 500 was a Nextel Cup event held at Lowe's Motor Speedway on October 9, 1994. Dale Jarrett won his sole event on the season, holding off Morgan Shepherd. On the fifth lap of this race, Bobby LaBonte had a spetacular wreck, when his car hit the wall and burst into flames in turn 3. Bobby was unhurt. Later in the race with ten laps to go, Ricky Rudd and Jeff Gordon were battling for position. Exiting turn four, Gordon shut the door on Rudd pushing him up the track. In turn one, Rudd retaliates by spinning Gordon but gets himself collected. Neither car was able to finish. Points leader Dale Earnhardt finished 3rd and continued to enjoy a 321-point lead on Rusty Wallace (37th). Stats
