Thomas Mitchell Pierce was an artist of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He was also a son-in-law of Harriet Alva Baum Neal, sister of L. Frank Baum. Pierce contributed illustrations to two Baum books, By the Candelabra's Glare and Daughters of Destiny. More generally, he was a popular illustrator of his generation, noted for his pictures of young women. (His three pictures for Daughters of Destiny were for female characters.) Pierce was also active in book illustration, with a range of titles to his credit.
