Angel is a unique character who is "intellectually bipolar" according to Arthur. Her mental state is somewhat of a mystery to her friends; though she can operate just sufficiently in a public setting and is able to socialize, her analytical and logical ability to understand complex problems is inconsistent. Her mental state is somewhat of a mystery to her friends; though she can operate just sufficiently in a public setting and is able to socialize, her analytical and logical ability to understand complex problems is inconsistent. This is demonstrated in several pokemon battles she partakes in at the Celumbia University Pokemon Battle of the Year competition when in each match, her strategy often varies between a headlong-bulldozer mindset to a strategic, resourceful, and versatile approach. Many mistake her battling style as a reflection of an intellectually witted individual, but only very few like Sonya, Jeremiah, Soren, Arthur, and Airelia are able to identify it as an abnormality. Aside from her mental consistency, she's also one of the prettiest students at Celumbia University often subject to the courting attempts of several individuals including the secretive Skyfall Grey who actually conceals his objective obsession for Angel away from his friends. Loving the attention, she develops a princess complex she tries to limit at times as she is insecure of scrutiny and judgment. Her caring nature also translates her tendency and desire to hug people frequently - especially affectionate ones to her friends. Angel however first develops a rivalry with Sonya, her roommate and sees Sonya as an exception amongst her friends who she feels "has too much presence". It's no coincidence Angel's specialization in Fire-type Pokémon is incarnated as a polar reaction to Sonya's Ice-type reflection. After graduating both go on to become one of the youngest gym leaders in the Pokémon World, Angel and Sonya's rivalry become further antagonized and both try to contest how many trainers they were able to put down when having their respective gyms challenged. As a result, Angel is able to sufficiently consolidate her determination in future battles gradually diminishing her intellectually bipolar character.
