During the consolidation of the new eastern provinces, Aurelius also straightened out the southern Mesopotamian border. Having the Euphrates' full curve as the border was considered to be a disadvantage against Arab raids from the south. Marcus’ remaining 13 years were considered peaceful despite the Germanic incursions, similar to Antoninus’ last years. He died in 933(180). Commodvs was revealed to be worse than Domitian in his running of the Empire, although he was not as cruel. He removed most of the Capitoline Games’ events in favour of lending more viewership to his favourite sport of Gladiators. He still allowed the CG to travel and was always present at each game. He proved so totally inept at running any form of government though that he fired good senators and politicians in favour of bad ones (in the form of yes men and fawners). The treasury was draining at a disparaging rate and only the few good senators remaining showed any concern. He pulled legions from Caucus and Bosporos to put down revolts in Armenia and Dacia; Caucus and Bosporus were lost to barbarian invaders, mainly Ostrogoths, between 939-42(186-9). Mazun's garrisons were devastated by the plague, control of Mazun was abandoned in 943(190).
