Als sie erwähnt, dass auch Doktor McCoy Gable nicht gekannt hat, als sie ihm von dem erzählt hat, erfährt Kirk so, dass McCoy, den er bei seiner Zeitreise sucht, ebenfalls in Keelers Straßenmission ist. - Major Clark Gable (February 1, 1901 – November 16, 1960) was an iconic American film actor who lived during the 20th century. Gable was known to have been in a total of eighty theatrically released motion pictures. In 1930, Edith Keeler invited James T. Kirk to watch a Clark Gable film with her at the Orpheum. This film was most likely Du Barry, Woman of Passion. Neither Kirk nor Doctor Leonard McCoy had ever heard of Gable. (TOS episode & novelization: The City on the Edge of Forever)

His three most famous roles are Peter Warne in It Happened One Night, Fletcher Christian in Mutiny on the Bounty and Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind; all three earned him Academy Award nominations, and he won for It Happened One Night. At one point he was Hollywood's top male box-office draw, second overall only to Shirley Temple. He was nicknamed "The King of Hollywood". Joe Shuster named Superman's alter-ego after Gable and fellow leading man Kent Taylor.
