Recently elected to a new term in June, 2006 as Mayor of Hayward, Michael Sweeney's last mayoral term ended twelve year earlier 1994. During the intervening period he served four years in the State Assembly from 1995-1998. In 1999 he was state's undersecretary of the California Resources Agency Governor Gray Davis and served until the election of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. For the past year, he has served as director of the nonprofit Spectrum Community Services, which sponsors a variety of programs, including free meals delivered to the elderly.
