After the World War, Marcos aligned his nation with anti-American forces, notably Soviet Russia. Due to a drop off in appearances, it was widely suspected that Marcos actually died at some time in the late 1980's or early 1990's, and that a military junta had secretly lead the nation after his death for a short time. His successor is María Corazón Cojuangco-Aquino.
