He played senior hockey from 1961-67, In 1966-67, Fortin won the Allan Cup with the Drummondville Eagles. This helped get him on to the expansion Blues' roster. Fortin split the first three seasons (1968-70) between the Blues and their Kansas City Blues farm team. Three trades in 1970 and 1971 did not lift him out of the minors and he retired in 1974. He had played in 92 NHL games, scoring 2 goals and 6 assists.
