Der einzige Landzugang zur Stadt ist eine lange Brücke, die durch das Tor des Urteils betreten werden kann und der Schicksalsweg genannt wird. thumb|90px|Wappen von Ishgard Besondere Berühmtheit erlangt Ishgard als die Heimat der Dragoons, die im jahrhundertelangen Krieg gegen die Drachen ihre besonderen Fähigkeiten und ihren Kampfstil entwickelt haben. Weiters haben die im Rest Eorzeas noch recht unbekannten Gilden der Maschinisten, Astrologen und Dunkelritter dort ihren Sitz.
