During the battle, Loki's attempt to mind-control Stark failed due to the miniature Repulsor Technology unit in Stark's chest. However, Loki successfully blasted the Quinjet carrying Hawkeye and Black Widow out of the sky. After the monstrous Hulk defeated Loki, Selvig, now freed from Loki's control, revealed he had designed the scepter as a safety to cut off the portal's power. Black Widow closed the portal to the Chitauri, and the scepter was left with S.H.I.E.L.D.
