In 2004 Aventis was purchased by Sanofi-Synthélabo and became a part of Sanofi-Aventis, one of the five largest pharmaceutical companies in the world (along with Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Novartis, and GlaxoSmithKline).
