The M2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifle (ESR), formerly known as the XM2010 and M24 Reconfigured Sniper Weapon System, is an M24 modification developed by PEO for the US Army. After adopting the M110 the Army looked to improve their M24s. The M110 now fills the same role the M24 did and does it much better, making the M24 outdated. The M24 used a long action which allowed for upgrade. The Army is currently in the process of updating all the M24s to the M2010, giving the Army a light, long range sniper rifle that shoots farther than the 7.62x51mm NATO but is lighter than the M107. The M2010 uses the .300 Winchester Magnum cartridge allowing for more power and greater range.

The M2010 uses the .300 Winchester Magnum cartridge allowing for more power and greater range. It has an effective range of 1200 meters which is 400 meters greater than the 7.62mm M24, and also has more power than the M24. The downsides to using a larger and more powerful caliber are increases in barrel wear, flash, jump, recoil, and weight.
