Following the rise of the Galactic Empire and Order 66, Bergamini was one of the few former Republic officers that was spared in the newly-declared Emperor's purges. Thus was due to the attention he received from Palpatine earlier for his naval tactical skill. The Emperor promoted Bergamini to the rank of admiral and gave him command of a small task force, known as Task Force Citadel. His forces played a minor role in the Reconquest of the Rim, a campaign by Darth Vader to re-subjugate the Outer Rim Territories. Bergamini continued to loyally serve the Empire into the Galactic Civil War, and was promoted to High Admiral in 4 BBY.

  • Following the rise of the Galactic Empire and Order 66, Bergamini was one of the few former Republic officers that was spared in the newly-declared Emperor's purges. Before the Battle of Endor, one of Palpatine's final acts was promoting Bergamini to the rank of Grand Admiral—one of the highest in the Imperial Military. However, the Sith was unable to relay the information to the Admiralty, and his promotion was thus not believed by the rest of the naval hierarchy. However, Ysanne Isard, the director of Imperial Intelligence, who heard of his tactical and leadership from the Emperor earlier, and promoted him to another rank which she specially created for him—Fleet Admiral. It made him, in theory, the highest ranking member of the fleet other than the Grand Admirals. In reality, his authority was not recognized by many other officers and he was treated as a high admiral—slightly more authority than a normal admiral, with a bigger fleet. During the Imperial Civil War and following conflicts, Bergamimi remained loyal to whoever controlled Coruscant, and eventually, to Admiral Gilad Pellaeon. He served the Imperial Remnant, and fought in the Yuuzhan Vong War. Bergamini devastated the Yuuzhan Vong armada at the Liberation of Coruscant in 29 ABY, a battle which ended the conflict. Afterwards, he was promoted to the honorary rank, Admiral of the Fleet, by Grand Admiral Pellaeon (which was essentially the second-in-command of the navy). However, due to poor health, the fleet admiral retired in 30 ABY. He died that same year, on Bastion, at age 84.
