Some reports state that sometime Floyd collaborator Ron Geesin actually provided the 'ranting pict' section. * The Picts were the indigenous people of what is now Scotland, before they were made virtually extinct by Irish and Viking invaders. * There's a "hidden message" in the song at approximately 4:22. If played at a slower speed, Waters or guitarist David Gilmour can be heard to say, "That was pretty avant-garde, wasn't it?". It is thought by some that the high-pitched squeaking which is repeated every couple of seconds from about 1:30 to about 2:10 is Waters saying, "Bring back my guitar" sped up by a factor of 10. However, this is not true, although it is phonetically similar. * Several Species, a Baltimore-based Pink Floyd tribute band founded in 1996, is named after the song.
