Meanwhile, Guan Yu secretly becomes the exam settler for the school term and is sworn to secrecy by Dong Zhuo and the political laws. Truthfully, Dong Zhuo is plotting to destroy the friendship between Guan Yu and his friends. Xiao Qiao accidentally picks up Guan Yu's exam settler's brush, thus exposes his secret duty to the entire class. Xun Yu, one of Cao Cao's family friends, is upset to hear the news because his family has been Dong Han's exam settlers for generations. He turns to Cao Cao for aid in hopes to use his relationship to switch duties with Guan Yu. Guan Yu however declines. Zhang Fei accidentally overhears Xun Yu and Cao Cao's upsetting conversation and mistakes Cao Cao for thinking them as useless underlings. Zhang Fei, Ma Chao and Huang Zhong begin to treat Cao Cao badly despite Xiu/Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhao Yun's advice. Dong Zhuo plots with Li Ru and Mei Niang to make Xiu/Liu Bei the next student body president to cause further misunderstandings between them. One of the students overhear their conversation and passes it on to others, only it varies by every student. When Cao Cao hears the news, he mistakes that Xiu/Liu Bei is plotting to take his place of student body president and begins to act hostile toward him. The next morning, Diao Chan is suspected to have stolen Guan Yu's exam setting brush and receives expulsion for it. Sun Shang Xiang comes up with a plan to catch the culprit and asks Cao Cao to ask Dong Zhuo for a lie-detection activity using her family foul.
