The drive to explore the world is necessary for a civilization which wishes to know more about it. It turns out, it is also very good for trade and diplomacy, since you always know more distant places and people who don't have bad history with you. Thus, Exploration offers major advancements for a civilization, although it isn't actually required for further civic advancement.

abstract
| - The drive to explore the world is necessary for a civilization which wishes to know more about it. It turns out, it is also very good for trade and diplomacy, since you always know more distant places and people who don't have bad history with you. Thus, Exploration offers major advancements for a civilization, although it isn't actually required for further civic advancement. First, it replaces many outdated Policies from ancient times with advanced ones. Second, it improves the workings for one of the basic Improvements, the Pasture. But most importantly, it unlocks access to the next type of government, Merchant Republic - the government for the commerce-oriented civilization.
