Ficus Solitarius (also simply known as Talking Flowers) is a breed of flower that is very rare and known to be sentient, often speaking its mind like any humanoid living being. Its entry in Papa Smurf's book states the following: "This talking flower is incredibly rare, incredibly beautiful and incredibly selfish. It cares only for itself and its own survival". Despite its mean-spirited nature, a Ficus Solitarius can be raised to be good if given nurturing love and nutrition as a seedling; showing that the common selfish behavior of this plant species is the result of a bad upbringing.

Despite its mean-spirited nature, a Ficus Solitarius can be raised to be good if given nurturing love and nutrition as a seedling; showing that the common selfish behavior of this plant species is the result of a bad upbringing. Smurfette first encountered a member of this plant species named Petaluma in the cartoon show episode "Smurfette's Flower", who turned out to be so demanding when Smurfette brought it home to take care of that she ended up bringing it back out into the forest where she found it. However, as Petaluma was affected by the frosty weather to the point where it nearly died, it expressed its feelings of regret and remorse to Smurfette before passing away. Fortunately, Petaluma had offspring in the form of two identical flowers, who were more appreciative of Smurfette's efforts as she tended after them. In "Smurfette's Green Thumb", a garden full of all kinds of mean and manipulative talking flowers were seen in ancient times within the city of Babylon. Much like Petaluma, these deceitful flowers tried to take advantage of Smurfette's kindness and forced her to tend to them.
