Tartessos was an important and powerful harbor city during the Bronze Age. Isketerol, a native Tartessos merchant, realised from his stay on Nantucket Island that Tartessos in modern history has been lost in time, and only been vaguely known. This knowledge convinced Isketerol that he has an opportunity to change the future of his people.

- Tartessos was a 23rd century Orion individual, an officer in the Orion Colonies' pirate fleet. Tartessos's specialty was as an engineer. (TOS video game: Starfleet Command) No history or fate is established for this character as its name was randomly selected for a chief engineer by the game software.
- The Tartessians were rich in metal. In the 4th century BC Ephorus describes "a very prosperous market called Tartessos, with much tin carried by river, as well as gold and copper from Celtic lands". Trade in tin was very lucrative in the Bronze Age, since it is an essential component of true bronze, and comparatively rare. Herodotus refers to a king of Tartessos, Arganthonios, presumably named for his wealth in silver.

The people from Tartessos became important trading partners of the Phoenicians, whose presence in Iberia dates from the eighth century BC, and who nearby built a harbor of their own, Gades (present-day Cádiz).
